Boats

New and/or transferred vessels are registered with the Poweshiek County Recorder. Boat fees are based on the length of the boat. All boats over 17 feet in length (except canoes and kayaks) or all boats with a lien must be titled. Sales of boats and other watercraft in Iowa are subject to the state sales tax of 5% plus local option taxes. This applies to sales by individuals as well as dealers.

Anyone purchasing a boat from an individual should obtain a bill of sale and title if applicable.

Current boat fees are as follows:

∙Jet ski’s: $46.25
∙No Motor or Sail: $13.25
∙Less than 16 feet: $23.75
∙16 feet to under 26 feet: $37.25
∙26 feet to under 40 feet: $76.25
∙40 feet and over: $151.25
∙New or duplicate titles: $10.00
∙Duplicate registrations or transfer fee: $2.25

ATV/Snowmobiles

New and/or transferred recreational vehicles are registered with the Poweshiek County Recorder. ATV and snowmobile registrations expire on December 31 of each year. ATV’s registered since January 2000, and snowmobiles registered since January 1998 must have a title.
